If you’ve ever been on a road trip, then you know that you’re often driving for hours at a time. Unless you follow the 3-3-3 rule, this could easily take most of the day. Whether it’s going to be hours before you plan on stopping to eat or don’t have time to stop at all for a proper meal, you’ll want to have some easy-to-eat road trip snacks handy. To keep your belly happy while on the road, here are some easy prep snacks you can keep in your RV on your next trip.

Trail Mix

1. Trail Mix

If you’re looking for a snack that is filling, delicious, and versatile, then you can’t go wrong with trail mix. Not only will the nuts, chocolate, raisins, and whatever else you prefer in your trail mix taste amazing, the fats and protein from the nuts will also keep you full and energized while you drive. Trail mix is also a great snack to have for your outdoor adventures, such as hiking, since it fuels your body for hours! Trail mix is easy to buy the ingredients to make your own custom mix or usually available for purchase at all gas stations and grocery stores.

Energy Balls

2. Energy Balls

Packed with fats, carbohydrates, and protein, energy balls are probably the easiest way to get in some quick energy. To make energy balls successfully, you’ll need to have old fashioned rolled oats, your nut butter of choice, such as almond butter or peanut butter, and some type of sweetener to help everything stick, such as honey or maple syrup. To get even more creative, you can add flaxseed, chocolate chips, coconut, and more! Simply mix all ingredients together and roll into small balls, refrigeration is optional and you can make them as dry or wet as you prefer.

Meat and Cheese on Crackers

3. Meat, Cheese, and Crackers

If charcuterie boards are your guilty pleasure, then why not find a way to eat it on the road? What’s good about this snack is how easy it is to munch on, on the move. You can easily eat a cracker and piece of cheddar cheese while still keeping one hand on the wheel. Plus, it offers the perfect balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fats to keep you full until you get to a restaurant for a more hearty meal. The only downside with this snack option is that you will need a passenger to stack up the crackers if you're using extravagant toppings, safe driving always comes first!

Protein Boxes

4. A Protein Box

Similar to meat, cheese, and crackers, a protein box is easy to eat while driving. With these, you can add multiple foods to keep you satisfied for hours, such as hard-boiled eggs, grapes, cashews, carrots, and hummus. This easy and healthy snack prep idea allows you to eat well between bigger meals. To make it a nutritious snack, make sure your protein box includes a fruit, vegetable, and protein source or use the convenience of this idea and add each of your favorite treats!

Mixed Fruit Bowl

5. Fruit Mix

I think most people would agree that of the healthiest, best summer snacks to eat is a big bowl of fruit. If you’re driving through the desert on a hot summer day, then why not snack on some refreshing fruit? Some great fruit bowl choices are berries, such as blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries, or melons, such as watermelon and cantaloupe. Plus, you’ll be getting your vitamins while satisfying your sweet tooth.

Yogurt Parfait

6. Yogurt Parfait

A yogurt parfait is an easy, high-protein snack that takes minimal time to make and will keep you full so you can focus on driving. Plus, it tastes delicious! Before driving, you can add some fruit and honey to the yogurt and then simply add in the granola for a complete snack that provides several vitamins and minerals. This is also a quick and easy breakfast you can eat before hitting the road all day.

Overnight Oats

7. Overnight Oats

Maybe you’ve heard of them, maybe you haven’t. Either way, overnight oats are a trendy, healthy, and mouth-watering breakfast or snack that is super easy to prepare. The night before you plan on driving, simply add plant-based milk to some old fashioned rolled oats. Add greek yogurt or whatever else you prefer, such as cinnamon, chia seeds, protein powder, and/or granola, then mix them together and place it in the fridge overnight. When you wake up, you’ll have a thick, easy-to-eat meal for breakfast or to eat with a spoon while driving.

Celery in a bowl

8. Ants On A Log

A classic snack for kids and adults alike, “ants on a log” is a healthy and nutritious snack that only takes a few minutes to prepare. Simply spread some peanut butter on a celery stick and top it with raisins or chocolate chips—yum! You can easily hold a prepped celery stick to snack on while you drive from one destination to another.
